A 1940's home where the client's mother spent her teenage years was purchased from the grandfather's estate shortly after his passing. The purchase and renovation were a way to reinvent history by making an old home new again for the young family who decided the house carried too many precious memories to be sold to the next highest bidder.
Perched atop a generously sized waterfront lot in north Seattle with panoramic views of the Puget Sound, the Olympic Peninsula and Olympic mountain range, the aesthetic of the home is classic meets modern and eclectic. It's fun, colorful and whimsical. Perfect for a family that dines most days together in a formal dining room around a table that family members have gathered at for decades to celebrate the best things in life.
Some rooms, furnishings and artwork will be easily recognizable to aunts, uncles and cousins while enjoying Christmas dinner. Others will leave them scratching their heads, wondering what it used to look/feel like.

The clients of this newly built high rise unit only had a few requests when hiring brio interior design to complete the bare bones, empty interior from scratch. The palette should include green and ivory, the art should be local, the sofa must be “nap-able” and there must be a king size bed in the owner’s suite with an upholstered headboard.
Otherwise, these on the go clients gave their designers carte blanche when making the majority of the design decisions for the apartment. This is, afterall, their home away from home, home in Seattle; a place they plan to spend their summers close to family. We chose to infuse the sterile interior with bold color, lush texture, one of a kind custom furnishings and plenty of velvet. The space features artwork by locals including Deanne Belinoff and Paul Edmondson as well as the fine craftsmanship of local woodworkers and furniture makers who built the custom sofa, wall bed/desk, headboard and living room built-ins right here in lovely Seattle.

Brio Interior Design transformed this young globe trotting couple's first house together from a dated fixer-upper to a bright, open and modern mid-century home. Located in Bellevue, WA, the 1960's house came with drab finishes and an awkward kitchen layout with two flanking dining rooms. Brio reworked the floor plan eliminating walls and extending the kitchen into one of the dining spaces. The result is an airy, expansive layout that seamlessly connects the living room, kitchen, and dining room. All new finishes were selected and combined with family heirloom pieces such as the freshly re-upholstered mid-century dining set and grandma's stunning onyx cocktail table. Paired with art and textiles from travels abroad and the husband's time in the Peace Corps, the living space feels collected yet paired down, leaving room for the couple to further leave their imprint on the home in the years to come. The neutral palette combined with warm accents like brass, wood and global textiles results in a fresh, inviting, well traveled space.

G&O Family Cyclery is a cargo and family bike focused shop, the first of it's kind in Seattle. We helped them design their new location after an unfortunate explosion in their neighborhood required they find a new location for the shop. Collaborating with local manufacturer, Kerf, we were able to create flexible storage and retail displays specifically tailored to their bikes, parts and accessories.
