The vaulted wood ceilings of this 1962 Kirkland home offered a warm starting point for its renovation. Brio opened the kitchen to the living room, introducing a steel beam that gives the newly connected spaces a quiet symmetry. Within the kitchen, natural walnut cabinetry and floors meet deep slate-gray lower cabinets and a navy tile backsplash. Plum-colored upholstery adds a softer note to the rich palette. The rooms flow around a see-through fireplace and out toward the covered patio and pool. Rooted in the home’s midcentury character, the design brings color and intimacy to spaces made for cooking, gathering, and moving easily between indoors and out.
